Nylon are all around us. We live in them, sleep on and under them, sit on them, walk on them, and even live in rooms covered in them. Some cultures have even revolved around them: using them for currency and spiritual connection. Some of us devote our whole lives to designing and manufacturing them. Although it is so common in life, there are still countless people who have not known about the production and manufacture of these kinds of products, and do not know the difference of recycled components in nylon.

When it comes to recycled components in nylon, we usually use several different terms to distinguish different recycling methods at each stage. Pre-Consumer, Post-Consumer, Post-Industrial and Recycled are all terms used in this content. Next we will learn more about the meaning of several terms.

 meaning of several terms

Pre-Consumer Recycled

This term means the material is reclaimed waste or excess product from manufacturing processes. In recent years, various brands and company brands have become more interested in recycled nylon yarn made from pre-consumer waste, because it can further explore new methods of using post-consumer waste to make yarn. Take the most common polyester nylon yarn in life as an example. Polyester is the most used fiber in the textile industry. Most of the raw materials of this product comes from those that cannot be easily degraded, such as plastic bottles. Most plastic bottles produce waste during the production process. These wastes are called pre-consumer recycled material. That is, these materials have not entered the market or used by consumers.

Post-Consumer Recycled

This term is designated for material from products that has been used by consumers. The post-consumer recycled nylon yarn mainly comes from various plastic waste collected in the environment. It sounds similar to the pre-consumer recycled material, but the source of the latter is mainly in the ocean and landfills. Professionals will find a lot of plastic garbage such as bottles and fishing nets in the ocean. These materials are spun into fibers in a series of steps and then woven or knitted into fabrics.

Post-Consumer Recycled

In terms of performance, there is almost no difference between pre-consumer recycles and post-consumer recycles. However, as post-consumer recycling means collecting waste from the environment and recycling it by giving new life to what is currently polluting, its cost prohibits many manufacturers. Under such circumstances, pre-consumer recycled materials have become the first choice of most manufacturers. On the other hand, pre-consumer recycled materials are simply waste that is thrown back into the manufacturing process. More importantly, pre-consumer recycled materials are by-products of processes that rely on original materials. This material maintains its most original appearance and performance to the greatest extent, and also brings greater convenience to users.

Back to the nylon yarn industry, it is one of the strongest materials used by many manufacturers in their products. Most businessmen who need ultra-light textile materials will give priority to recycled nylon yarn. Ordinary nylon yarn is a petroleum-based material, and its manufacturing cost is relatively high. Adding as much recycled yarn as possible will help eliminate waste materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the manufacturing process.
