Polyester is an important variety in synthetic fibers. It is a fibrillated polymer-polymerized pair prepared by esterification or transesterification and polycondensation of benzoic acid (PTA) or p-benzoic acid, which is a fiber made by spinning and post-treatment.
Primary silk: Undrawn yarn(UDY), also called as conventional spinning; Semi-pre-oriented yarn (MOY), also called medium speed spinning；Pre-oriented yarn(POY), also called high speed spinning; And high-orientation yarn(HOY), which is also called ultra-high speed spinning.
Stretched yarn: Drawn yarn--low speed drawing yarn(DY); Full drawing yarn (FDY); Full-orientation yarn--spinning step (FOY)
Deformed yarn: Conventional textured yarn (DY); Tensile textured yarn (DTY); Air textured yarn (ATY)
DTY:Draw textured yarn, which is also known as polyester low-elastic yarn. It is a finished yarn that is continuously or simultaneously stretched and deformed on a machine. Often featured with certain flexibility and contraction. DTY is suitable for fabric end uses like outer/inner garments, skin-clinging garments, furnishings, upholstery, etc. This is a replacement of cotton and cotton blend yarns with very low moisture content.
DTY mesh yarn: Mesh yarn refers to the filament in the mesh nozzle, which is acted upon by the jet airflow, and the filaments are entangled with each other to form a filament with periodic mesh points. Mesh yarn processing is mostly used for the processing of POY，FDY and DTY. The low-elastic mesh yarn manufactured by the combination of mesh technology and DTY technology，not only has the fluffiness and good elasticity of the textured yarn, but also has many periodicity mesh points, which improves the tightness of filament so as to eliminate the need for several processes in textile processing and improve the ability of the tow to pass through the water jet loom.
Generally, according to the type of mesh nozzle, the first and second hot box temperatures, the condition of raw silk, there are low elastic yarn, medium elastic yarn, high elastic yarn, light mesh yarn, heavy mesh yarn, no mesh yarn, low elastic light yarn mesh, and a twisted yarn.
FDY: Full Draw Yarn, which is a synthetic fiber filaments obtained by spinning and drawing. The filaments are fully stretched and can be used directly in textile processing. It can be used for both the two processes low-speed spinning and high-speed stretch winding completed on a spinning and drawing machine. The production line is of low production cost, stable finished product quality, less broken yarn and good dyeing uniformity. Conventional stretched yarns of polyester and nylon are all chemical fiber filaments.
FDY is available in raw-white as well dope dyed. Dope dyed FDY yarn can be used to make the colored fabric directly instead of making the fabric with FDY raw-white first and then dyeing it. Catonic FDY is another variation of Filament yarn. Polyester FDY yarn can also be twisted to make polyester embroidery thread that is widely used in sewing.
The difference between low elastic yarn (DTY) and high elastic yarn (FDY) is that whether the silk that has been shaped in the texturing process. The one has been shaped is called low elastic yarn, and the other one is a high elastic yarn.
The FDY yarn can be stretched to about 3% or less after the spinning nozzle, and is no longer deformed in the process. So its fabrics usually shows smooth surface. However, compared to DTY material, it has poor gas permeability and a harder touch. It is used commonly in the clothing to have its silk-like characteristics.
